Food & Travel Photography Workshop
Finca Buenvino, Andalucia
2018 WORKSHOP DATES ARE HERE!
24–29 May | 31 May–5 Jun | 20–25 Sep | 27 Sep–2 Oct
Like all the courses I run, these workshops—which take place at the beautiful Finca Buenvino in the magnificent Sierra de Aracena in Andalucia, Spain—are a hands-on experience. I firmly believe that showing someone how to do something is a lot more effective than telling them. To this end, I will be shooting and working alongside you the whole time.
"Being taught by Tim Clinch felt like a rare treat ...
... he was not only extremely informative and helpful in progressing all our camera skills, whatever our levels, but he was also kind, patient and extremely good fun ... I’d go on another of his courses like a shot."
– Thomasina Miers, Masterchef winner and owner of Wahaca restaurants, London
The workshops are not a ‘quick fix’. There are plenty of excellent half-day courses out there for that. Rather, this is a complete re-working of how to approach your photography. Crucially, I work 99% of the time with natural light. I’ll show you how it can be your friend, not something to be scared of, as well as how to use reflectors, diffusers and flags to improve your images; how to use depth of field to add impact to them; and how to use some tricks of the trade to enliven your composition. You’ll learn how simple things, like colour-correcting your images, can make so much difference.
We’ll also focus on the complex issues of building a portfolio and editing, something many people stumble over. Every evening, over a glass or two of wine, we’ll have a feedback session, going over the pictures we shot that day and discussing how to use them. How many? Which picture goes with which? Would this look good in black and white?
Tailored to Your Skill Level
If you’re looking to improve your basic skills, we can do that. If you’re looking for styling ideas, Finca Buenvino and the surrounding area offer a positive treasure trove. And if you’re looking to build a portfolio, there will be ample opportunity for real advances. In our trips to local markets and our visits to food producers, there will be time to explore the possibilities of building real stories with your work, supported by good, sound and, above all, experienced professional advice.
Make no mistake, you’ll be thrown in at the deep end! Surrounded by things to shoot and by stunningly beautiful countryside, we will immerse you in a food lover’s and photographer’s paradise.
It’s difficult to give an exact itinerary, as things change according to season and availability, but in the Finca Buenvino workshops we will have two days photographing in and around the locations, concentrating on the food and produce each location has to offer, and two days out ‘on location’, visiting some of the beautiful local villages such as Linares and Fuenteheridos.
Every day, we will have lunch either in a restaurant or tapas bar or at home. At Buenvino, you’ll love Jeannie’s cooking, which is stunning. We style what we eat and eat what we photograph and visit many of the local producers.
We are in Spain, so a short siesta is in order! The afternoons will begin with processing and retouching the pictures shot in the morning. I use Lightroom (and suspect you will too after you see what you can do with it!) and will process, retouch and enhance your images, demonstrating how you can get the most out of your pictures in post-production. Before drinks and dinner, we’ll have a feedback session and further post-production instruction.
